Privacy and terms

This page covers the openreceive.org website and the OpenReceive price mirror. It does not cover your own store: the OpenReceive software runs on your server, and OpenReceive receives none of your orders, customers or wallet data.

The OpenReceive software

The OpenReceive libraries and plugins (npm, RubyGems, PyPI, Packagist, the WordPress plugin and the BTCPay Server plugin) run on your own server. Payments go straight to the wallet you connect. OpenReceive does not see, store or process your orders, your customers' details, your wallet credentials or your payments.

The software contacts third parties that you choose: your wallet's Nostr Wallet Connect relay, and, if you enable swaps, your swap provider. Their own terms and privacy policies apply. For BTC prices it asks CoinGecko first and the OpenReceive price mirror second.

The price mirror

The price mirror at https://openreceive.org/api/v3/simple/price returns current BTC prices in a fixed list of fiat currencies. OpenReceive software uses it as a fallback when CoinGecko does not answer.

  • What a request contains: the list of currency codes. No order, customer or wallet data.
  • What we keep: our web server logs each request, including the requesting IP address, the time and the URL. We keep these logs for 90 days and use them only to operate and secure the service. We do not sell or share them.
  • No accounts and no cookies.

Terms of use: the mirror is free and provided as is, without warranty. Prices may be delayed or unavailable. We may rate-limit, change or withdraw the service. Do not rely on it as your only price source; OpenReceive software already checks CoinGecko first and refuses to price an order on missing or stale rates.

The website

Our web server logs requests as described above, for 90 days.

To understand how the site is used, openreceive.org runs:

  • Plausible Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not collect personal data, to count page views.
  • PostHog product analytics, which keeps a random anonymous ID in a first-party cookie and local storage. It records page views and a few actions, such as copying the agent directions, with query strings removed from page addresses. We never identify visitors, and PostHog honours Do Not Track.
  • Advertising measurement from X, OpenAI (ChatGPT Ads) and Google Ads, to learn whether our ads lead people to copy the agent directions. These load only on openreceive.org, never on checkout pages, and we send them no name, email, wallet or payment data. Each sets its own cookies, and its own privacy policy applies.

The demo shop on the home page sets one cookie holding a random visitor ID, so your browser can see the orders it placed. It expires a year after your last visit. A demo order stores the items, the amount and the payment status, and the payment attempt stores your IP address to limit abuse. The shop asks for no name or email.
